Two-stroke and four-stroke recreational vehicles, small engines, and construction and agricultural equipment are usually used seasonally or infrequently, then stored for long periods of time. During these periods of inactivity and due to ambient temperature fluctuations, water vapor can form condensation in the engine. When this condensate comes into direct contact with steel and iron components, it forms surface corrosion on the steel/iron contact surfaces of cylinder liners, piston rings, antifriction bearings and rotating spacers. Prolonged storage can also dry out the cylinders, which can often be irreversibly damaged when the equipment is removed from storage and started dry.

Most two-stroke and four-stroke engine oils are formulated to have an affinity with engine component surfaces and act as a barrier to prevent condensation from contacting engine components and causing corrosion. However, motor oil's effectiveness in this area decreases over time.

Engine Fog Oil (FOG) provides excellent film retention, provides long-term protection against corrosion and dry starting, extends engine life and reduces operating costs. Its aerosol spray formulation allows for easy and clean application while reaching more components and completely distributing the oil, which is particularly useful in horizontal cylinder orientations such as outboard engines.
